Building System

Each structure has a marker, usually a sign or a postbox, that can be Interacted with to show the building's requirements and the area in which those items must be placed (or already exist). When you receive a quest to create a new building, you'll receive its marker from the quest-giver.

When you have the marker, pick a spot that seems convenient and has plenty of room, and place it. (Can building areas overlap? Can you place new shops and houses anywhere on the island?) If you want to know what area it covers, check the box at the bottom of its display. Don't worry if you decide you want to move or turn it -- just hammer it, and it will drop itself to be picked back up and placed once more.

Once the area highlighted is what you want (there doesn't seem to be a way to change its size or relationship to the sign), you can start placing the required items. It's fine to add more things, and to extend past the marker's zone, but the listed things must be placed in the marked area. A roof does not have to cover every block in the designated area -- in fact, the requirement seems to be a single block above the level of the marker with at least one block of air below it.

You may need to scroll down in the sign interface to see all requirements. These will often include items such as bathtubs and refrigerators that you may have to order from the Catalogue. When the requirements are met, a message will appear. Quests to build or expand a building may have non-building steps, such as recruiting postmen for Leif's shop.

How to Start

You get your first building quest with the Tutorial; you're asked to build yourself a Barn. Once you've done that and talked to Maximilian, he'll tell you that he sometimes receives other building requests, and that if you're interested, you should check back with him each week or so to see if he has one. Other townfolk may ask you to build for them, as well, once you've completed the Barn (Riah can ask for the Fishing Spot before that).

Quests

Fixing up the barn

A sweeter village

Fishing Spot

Quest Giver

Riah can ask you to build a fishing hole even before you've finished the Barn.

Prerequisites

None.

Reward

  • Riah's old Fishing Rod

Building Requirements

  • 14x Water squares
  • 10x wood blocks
  • Fish Rack
  • Bait Box
  • Barrel

It's easiest to build this around existing water. The Dry Sponge sold by Leif may be a way of moving water blocks.

Blueprints

  • Fish Rack
  • Bait Box

Riah provides these blueprints. There are some spare Barrels on your farm; just Hammer one and use it.

The Bait Box requires 2x Rhino Beetle. These can be found on the sides of trees and captured with the Bug Net. The other materials can be crafted or bought from Aliza.

Post Office

This is a quest to build up Leif's store to Tier 3. To see the requirements, Interact with the existing store sign and use the yellow right-arrow to page over to Tier 3.

Quest Giver

Leif gives the quest, but it may require talking to Maximilian first.

Prerequisites

You seem to need to have completed the Barn, and to have talked to Maximilian, who mentions that his responses to Leif's tree-growing requests seem to keep going astray. When you talk to Leif, he'll ask you to help him expand his shop to handle the post.

Reward

  • Thing you get

Building Requirements

  • Post Counter
  • Post Office Postbox
  • Handling Post

Blueprints

  • Post Counter Blueprint
  • Post Office Postbox Blueprint
  • Handling Post Blueprint

Gain Petals by using the Scythe to Reap flowers and bushes.

Pet Shop

Quest Giver

Rosemary will hesitantly ask you to help her build a pet shop and gives you the Pet Shop Sign. She offers a fund of 1000 Petals, in addition to the blueprints, to get you started.

Prerequisites

The Barn

Reward

  • (1000 Petals given with Blueprints)

Building Requirements

  • thing
  • 2x more things

Blueprints

  • Pet Store Shelf Blueprint
  • Black Playpen Blueprint
