This page is for the tools collectively known as the "Debug Tools" or "Building Tools". These are tools which allow players a better control over making the world. These tools are available in the base game, however you will need to jump through a couple hoops to get them.

How to get Debug Tools

Easy Method

The easy method involves installing a Staxel-made mod by the name of Debug Building Tools. There are two different methods for this depending on which version you are running.

Steam Version

  1. Head to http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1239178411 and subscribe to this mod.
  2. Wait for steam to finish downloading mod.
  3. Start up Staxel (Not Mod Launcher) and click yes to prompts that appear. Wait for content builder to finish.
  4. Go to any creative world and look for the items in the creative menu.

Standalone Version

  1. Head to http://mods.playstaxel.com/mod/view/87 and download this mod.
  2. Once downloaded double click the mod. Wait for it to install.
  3. Start up Staxel, go to any creative world and look for the items in the creative menu.

Not so Easy Method

This method does not involve installing any mods. However this does require more work overall.

  1. Load up a world.
  2. Type /enablecheats if not already done so.
  3. Type /spawnitem [YourNameHere] {"kind" : "staxel.item.Something" }. Replace [YourNameHere] with your username, and "staxel.item.Something" with either; "staxel.item.Import" for the Import tool, "staxel.item.Export" for the Export tool, "staxel.item.MassFiller" for the Mass Filler or "staxel.item.MassReplacer" for the Mass Replacer.

Debug Tools

Export Tool

This tool saves a selected area for use as a structure, allowing you to use the file later to import into another world (Via the importer.) or to make a mod with a Structure Template.

Use:

  1. Left-Click on the first corner you want to select.
  2. Left-Click on the opposite corner you want to select, keeping everything within the region.
  3. If you are happy with the region, Left-Click once again to save. This saves the structure in the same folder as the world as "importexport.stxl" and "importexport.qb".

Alternative use:

  1. Right-Click at any point to cancel the current selection.

Import Tool

This tool loads in a set structure in order to place it in the world. Note that this tool is quite dangerous, and is best off testing how it imports before placing it anywhere near important possessions, like buildings.

Use:

  1. A file named "importexport.stxl" and "importexport.qb" must exist in folder which contains the world. (You can get this by using the Export Tool)
  2. Left-Click on the ground where you want to replace the structure.

This tool is likely to change at a later date to be less destructive. With better failsafes.

Alternative use: There are no alternative uses to the Import Tool.

Mass Filler

MassFiller.png

This tool fills in the air inside of any boxed in region with any specified block. Useful for underground purposes where you want to fill an area back up with stone.

Use:

  1. Create an enclosed space which you want to fill in. This space must of no holes in it, otherwise the tool will fail.
  2. Right-Click the block you want to use to fill in the space. For example, Right-Click dirt in order to use dirt for the filling.
  3. Face the wall on the outside of the space you want, and Double Left-Click. The area should now be filled.

Alternative use:

  1. If you are holding Right-Click while Double Left-Clicking, it will do your side of the wall rather than the opposite side. Do not that this usually means that it will fill in the area you are standing if. (If it isn't too large to fill.

Mass Replacer

This tool replaces a set of blocks with another block. Useful when you want to see if a building looks better with different coloured walls for example.

Use:

  1. Set-up whatever you want to replace.
  2. Right-Click the block you want to use to replace the other block. For example, Right-Click dirt in order to use dirt for the replacing.
  3. Double Left-Click on the blocks you want to replace.

Alternative use: There are no alternative uses to the Mass Replacer.
