Tools are how you interact with the world. You can receive a select few from Farm Fan in the tutorial, or you can buy most tools in the General Store run by the villager Leif. For multiplayer servers, the first person that joins is the one who receives the starter tools from Farm Fan. Everyone after that will receive compensation in Petals to buy the tools.
